There is a loud
silence in the house
as I turn on
disco on the radio
with the remote
in my hand.
I’m studying
the patterns
in the fake-wood-
ceiling
ignoring the words
gathering in my
head.
The curtains billow
and recede
with the storm outside
that is moving in
through an open
window
and the cats wish
to join me under
my blankets
warm
and
hidden.
I have numbers
I could call
I don’t
I have letters
to write
diary entries
to make
words overflowing
now
into the endless
shadows
of my room
my mind
my life
I just let them.
The disco on the radio
intrudes
becoming
suddenly annoying
I turn it off
by remote. . .
Ah yes
there it is
again
that
total silence...
I think
patterns on the ceiling
fake wood
storm blowing
in and out
cats hidden
shadows
I’m thinking
I’m getting
uncomfortable
in my
man-made
isolation
so I turn on
the disco on the radio
by remote
again.
